Erbs Palsy

Erbs palsy is a physical condition which relates to a group of muscles and nerves in the shoulder and upper arm. When injury occurs to the brachial plexus, a series of nerves which run from the spine to the shoulder, arm and hand, the arm may hang limp and/or normal movements may be restricted or lost altogether. Brachial plexus injuries may heal on their own, over time, but if the nerves are severed, full recovery may be unlikely.

Erbs palsy may be associated with birth injuries. When a baby is breech or a delivery is particularly difficult, the baby's shoulder may become stretched during passage through the birth canal. This relates to medical malpractice when a doctor or nurse acts negligently in some manner, which causes injury to the brachial plexus and thus causes erbs palsy to present.
