Indiana Organ Donor Group Sued for Medical Malpractice

In Indiana, two families are suing an Indiana based organ donor group for committing medical malpractice.

According to the families' lawsuits, their loved ones died shortly after receiving transplants that had been collected form a cancer patient.

In 2007, 45 year old Anthony Taylor died nine months after he received a kidney and liver transplant.  Another male had also died after receiving a kidney from the same female donor.

Reports indicate that the donor had skin cancer and that the cancer had aggressively spread to both her liver and kidneys.

The families filing the medical malpractice lawsuit claim that the Indiana organ procurement group did not properly screen the organs that had been donated.  However, the organ donor group claims that their screenings are in accordance with state standards.

No news on the amount of damages the families are seeking at this time.
