Some Contraceptives Pose the Danger of Blood Clots

Birth control is a valuable medication that can protect women from the responsibility of a child and still give them the sexual freedom that they want. Yet sometimes these contraceptive pills and methods come with dangerous and even deadly consequences. According to BusinessWeek, the Bayer AG drug company has been involved in over 1,000 lawsuits concerning the adverse effects of their Yasmin and YAZ birth control pills.

Both the pills have been proven to create blood clots in the pulmonary veins and arteries. At least 50 people have perished from a heart attack or stroke that was the direct result of taking the pills. The company has had to set aside approximately 500 million euros in order to cover the lawsuits that keep coming their way. Similar blood clot issues can happen when women use the Ortho Evra patch which is sold by Johnson & Johnson. This pill permits that

Another dangerous contraceptive is the Nuva Ring, which is a tool that is inserted into the vagina once a month to prevent pregnancy. The ring releases controlled amounts of ethinyl estradiol into the body in a combination with estonogestrel. These hormones can help to prevent pregnancy. While the hormones may keep women from conceiving, they can also keep them from having a happy and healthy lifestyle. Estonogestral is a third generation progestin desogestrel that has been linked to a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The hormone seems to create a host of heart problems, and the Nuva Ring delivers are shockingly high dose. The birth control ring has recently started to create pulmonary embolysm and deep vein thrombosis. In addition, people who use Nuva Ring have reported other blood clot issues. These clots have led to heart attacks and strokes in some cases, and even a sudden and untimely death. Nuva Rung has not adequately warned consumers of the dangers of the contraceptive, therefore those who are affected may have the right to compensation.
